warfare on his former colleagues. he's also a former navy reserve lieutenant, and is accused of firing on four officers today, one is dead. dorner is also wanted in connection with a double homicide in irvine, where the daughter of a retired police department captain, monica quan, and her fiance, keith lawrence, were killed in the parking lot of their apartment. dorner is suspected of being on the run since sunday, and police warn he is armed and dangerous. and according to a chilling manifesto he posted online, dorner's shooting spree targeted officers and hair families and it isn't over yet. antonio villaraigosa is urging everyone to be alert as it isn't over yet. kyung lah is on the scene of the first shoot this morning. what can you tell us about this breaking news we have that they've been able to identify this burnt vehicle as dorner's vehicle? >> reporter: well, just about 90 minutes ago, we did get a report that a car was on fire, that police had found this burned out shell of a vehicle, and there were a lot of questions as to whether or not that's his car. well, they are now c
to use a rifle. he's been awarded for his marksmanship. >> reporter: that's right. the u.s. navy quickly assembling what records it has on this man. and telling us he was a navy reservist. just until a few days ago, he separated from the naval service. we don't know when the last time is he showed up. but he has shooting expertise. let's go through it. according to navy records, he has been awarded the rifle marksman ribbon and the pistol expert medal. these are awarded for achieving a certain level of shooting accuracy at various distances. let's be clear. the plan is not a navy commander, he's not a navy s.e.a.l. he held a number of jobs as a reservist in navy security operations. in fact, he went to iraq, we are told, and had a job providing military security on iraqi oil platforms, to have that job, it is most likely we are told he did receive some advanced weapons training. you will remember back in those days, those oil platforms, a lot of concern about small boat attacks, sniper attacks, that sort of thing. so he clearly has a certain level, a worrisome level of weapons expertise.

against l.a. police. dorner is a former military man - a navy reservist. who was fired from the l-a-p-d. the search is focused in the southern california mountains because dorner's burned pick-up truck was found in the area earlier today. kron four's charles clifford shows us where police are focusing their search tonight. >> reporter: big bear is about 100 miles east of downtown los angeles, in the san bernardino mountains. this is a view looking north across the area, big bear city sits here and just to the south of town is the bear mountain ski resort. now christopher dorner's burned out truck was found along a dirt road roughly a couple milesto the southwest of the ski area. this is a very remote pine trees and ravines. the terrain here is steep and rocky, also in the recent past there are have been forest fires in this area that have left a lot of debrie on the ground, that could make it tough for search teams on foot. also, there are apparently about 400 homes nearby. a lot of these residences are vacation homes and probably empty. search teams have been going door to door c
